Full Stack Software Engineer – AI Squad (Tallin)
What if you could help build AI capabilities that don't belong to just one product – but become part of how an entire product ecosystem evolves?
At Assessio, our vision is Zero Talent Waste. We help organisations make fairer, more objective people decisions through science, technology and data – creating better outcomes for businesses while helping more people reach their full potential.
We've now created a dedicated AI Squad to build AI-powered capabilities and shared services across our products, including pre- and post-hiring. Some of what we're building doesn't exist yet. The problems are real, but the technical solutions aren't always predefined.
That's where you come in. We're looking for an experienced Full Stack Software Engineer who is comfortable navigating complexity, taking ownership and helping shape the technical way forward.
About the role
As an experienced Full Stack Software Engineer in our AI Squad, you'll work across product, technology and codebases to turn ideas and business needs into scalable, production-ready solutions.
You'll work closely with Product from discovery onwards – understanding the problem, challenging assumptions, identifying technical risks and helping decide how we should build the solution.
You'll contribute across the stack, with a strong focus on backend services, APIs, data and system design. And while AI is central to the squad, you don't need to be an AI specialist. We're looking for a strong software engineer who already uses AI in their development work and is curious about what it can enable.
What you'll be working on
Designing and building backend services, APIs, frontend interfaces and integrations.
Building AI-powered capabilities and shared services that can support multiple products.
Taking solutions from discovery and technical design through implementation and production.
Challenging solutions, identifying risks and making pragmatic technical trade-offs.
Exploring unfamiliar technologies and codebases rather than staying within one preferred stack.
Deploying, monitoring and improving production systems with reliability and maintainability in mind.
Using AI-assisted engineering tools to improve how you develop, test and solve problems.
Contributing to architecture decisions and engineering practices.
Who are you?
You're an experienced software engineer who is comfortable taking ownership of complex technical problems and making sound engineering decisions without needing the path to be predefined. You enjoy understanding why something should be built before deciding how to build it.
You probably have technologies you know particularly well, but you don't define yourself by one language or framework. You're curious about unfamiliar systems, comfortable with ambiguity and willing to learn when the problem takes you outside your usual stack.
Most importantly, you take ownership. You don't just execute tickets – you explore problems, propose solutions and take responsibility for getting them into production.
We believe you have
Strong software engineering fundamentals and the technical judgement to apply them across different languages, frameworks and architectural contexts.
Genuine Full Stack experience across backend and frontend development.
Strong backend, API and data experience, combined with solid system design thinking.
Worked with AI-assisted development workflows and tooling.
Experience building and maintaining software in production.
The ability to learn new technologies and navigate unfamiliar codebases.
A product mindset and pragmatic approach to technical decision-making.
Good communication skills and excellent written and spoken English and Estonian.
You may have worked with technologies such as Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python or Ruby – but we're much more interested in your engineering fundamentals and ability to learn than in matching every technology in our current stack.
It would be a plus if you have
Built or integrated AI/LLM-powered functionality in production.
Experience across several languages, frameworks or product codebases.
Experience with shared services, platform architecture or scaling SaaS applications.
Worked with cloud environments, CI/CD, automated testing and observability.
An understanding of security, privacy or compliance in software development.
Why this role?
You'll join a relatively new squad with the opportunity to influence both what we build and how we build it.
You'll help create capabilities from scratch that can eventually be used across different products and technologies, while becoming part of our growing Tallinn office and collaborating with colleagues across Engineering, Product and the wider Assessio Group.
The role is based in Tallinn, Estonia, in a hybrid setup.
About the recruitment process
We practice what we preach and use our own assessment tools throughout the recruitment process.
The process includes an initial conversation with Talent Acquisition, assessments and interviews exploring your experience and engineering approach, followed by a technical assessment and onsite case conversation with members of the team. We will finalize the process with a reference check before sharing our offer to the final candidate.
Why join Assessio?
You'll join a highly motivated team in Tallinn and collaborate with colleagues across Engineering, Product and the wider Assessio Group who are equally invested in making the AI Squad succeed.
At Assessio, psychology, technology and business come together around one ambition: Zero Talent Waste.
You'll join an international organisation where we're bringing our products and teams closer together.
Let us mention a few reasons why we think you should apply:
🚀 You get to join a relatively new AI Squad where some of what you'll build doesn't exist yet.
🛠️ You get to influence architecture, engineering practices and technical decisions.
🤝 ...and work with engaged colleagues in Tallinn and across Assessio.
🏡 Work from home up to two days a week.
⚖️ Strong work-life balance – great work should leave room for life outside it.
